In response to the Pakistan earthquake, Melissa Kushner, Founder and Executive Director of Goods for Good, assisted United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in shipping over 170 boxes of new winter clothing to children in need. The earthquake devastated parts of Pakistan, killing about 73,000 people and leaving another 70,000 injured. Additionally, the earthquake destroyed about 3 million people's homes, leaving them vulnerable to the ensuing winter months. With clothing donated by The Children's Place, a global children's clothing retailer, and in partnership with the United Nations and DHL, the clothing was distributed to the most marginalized households and individuals.
Haoliang Xu, UNDP Country Director in Pakistan, stated that the donation came at a time when it was most needed. "This donation is quite valuable. Children in the earthquake affected areas will be able to keep their bodies warm throughout the winter period and avoid catching diseases that come along with cold such as pneumonia."
